Absolute Signalling is an early prototype of a mechanical signalling simulator. You play as a signaller actually pulling the levers, and ringing the bell codes to get the trains down the lines...the right lines!

About This Game

It is currently a prototype build, with its initial tutorial level the "Hornby Junction" block simulator. This is based on the Network Rail training simulator, which is a fictitious signal box.

If you've played games like SimSig, Block Post Simulations, or dispatched on SimRail you'll feel at home! If you haven't played games like these, then hopefully it'll be a nice introduction!

NOTE: This is a prototype, please expect game breaking bugs and limited gameplay. I have released this to try and get initial feedback and engage the community on the direction this should go. It has a limited timetable for testing, and only one train classification.

The prototype is free (of course), but if you feel you want to donate to the development I'd be immensely grateful - I'm a solo dev doing this outside of full time work. This won't impact on my goal to develop this fully, just the speed at which I could feasibly do it i.e. getting modelling help in etc.

Controls:

  • WASD: Move
  • Left Click Hold + W or S: Move Lever Forward and Back
  • Left Click Hold + A or D: Move Block Commutator Left and Right
  • Left Click: Ring Block Bell (timing is manual, but should detect most speeds)
  • Left Click: Pick Up Item
  • F: Drop Item
  • I: Reset Items to Original Position
  • = : Increase Sim Speed
  • - : Decrease Sim Speed
  • 0: Max Sim Speed
  • 9: Min Sim Speed
  • Esc: Pause Menu

Current Features

  • Fully simulated Interlocking Levers
  • Block bell-code conversations for Absolute Block Signalling (limited to simple exchange see: wiki/Absolute_block_signalling#Example_block-bell_exchange)
  • Animated Sempahores, Signal Lights, Track Circuit lights.
  • Timetabled train arrivals
  • Tabletop model railway to visualise the trains and signals (just for the tutorial level - full game level will include true scale trains and tracks).

Planned Features (Subject to Change)

  • Absolute Signalling will develop beyond the Hornby Simulator to real world full scale signal box locations and a variety of trains, starting with Haslemere Station.
  • A day in the life simulation of the Signaller:
    • Signalbox Maintenance.
    • Fully working Kettle (essential).
    • Driver interactions
    • Platform interactions
  • Simulated failures - points etc.
  • Story elements

I'll be maintaining a Trello board here to document each suggestion or bug, and progress within each version:
